Registering a death

Once the official and embassy death certificates have been issued, the death must be registered with authorities in Abu Dhabi. Only after this can the deceased’s visa be cancelled, funeral arrangements be made, and/or the body be flown home.

Keep originals and copies of all documents with you, including the deceased’s cancelled passport, for this and all future procedures.

Prerequisites

  • Death certificates have been collected.

What to bring

  • Cancelled passport of deceased (original).
  • Local death certificate (Arabic) (original and copy).
  • Embassy/consulate death certificate (original and copy).
Fees: Dhs.20 Ministry of Health for registration, Dhs.50 Ministry of Foreign Affairs for attestation and Dhs.100 General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) for cancellation of visa.

Procedure

  • Visit the Ministry of Health (MOH), submit documents and pay the fee. The MOH will register the death.
  • Visit the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and submit documents and pay the fee. The original local death certificate will be attested and handed back to you.
  • Visit the GDRFA and submit documents and pay the fee. The deceased’s UAE visa will be cancelled immediately.
