Romantic Getaways

Paris, Rome...Abu Dhabi. If you're after a romantic weekend then what better place than a city brimming with stunning restaurants that is joined every evening by a heart-melting Arabian sunset.

Where to stay
If you want the ultimate in romantic getaways then Saadiyat Island's two hotels, the St.Regis and Park Hyatt, are tough to beat. The Sofitel's French charm or the classical French interiors of the new Royal Rose hotels may come a close second. Although, the clutch of hotels around the channel at Bain Al Bassain; the Ritz-Carlton, Shangri-La, Fairmont and Traders all have a romantic air to them too. Even the Rosewood on Al Maryah Island has a sense of occassion that is likely to let love bloom.

Day one
Spend the day in the European splendour of the Monte Carlo Beach Club on Saadiyat Island. Dip in the stylish pools or relax on ultra comfy loungers at the beach overlooking the turquoise Arabian Gulf. If you're staying on Saadiyat anyway, you may prefer to stick to your hotel's beach.

In the evening, enjoy a meal for two in the candlelit decking of BBQ Al Qasr at Emirates Palace by the beach. The restaurant is often cited as the most romantic in the city and it won't take you long to see why.

Day two
More pampering in the form of massages and treatments at a spa during the day. The luxurious Anantara Spa at Eastern Mangroves should help the romance continue although any number of luxury spas around the city will be equally as effective. Many (most) will be segregated, but some have outside areas that you can join up at again. Absence makes the heart grow fonder though!

Take a helicopter flight above Abu Dhabi in the afternoon and see the sunset from a new perspective. If you're feeling flush with money, Falcon Aviation will even fly you down to the five star desert resort, Qasr Al Sarab. There you can take in the sunset while looking across a thousand dunes and experiencing a unique dinner for two.

Otherwise, stay in Abu Dhabi and have a meal at Ushna at Qaryat Al Beri or overlooking the illuminated Grand Mosque or take in the new Stratos restaurant at Le Royal Meridien. It's an exclusive venue at the top of a tower, the outer edge of which rotates to give 360 degree panoramas of Abu Dhabi at night.

Day three
if you're not still at Qasr Al Sarab awaiting your helicopter ride home, then head to Al Maryah Island and The Galleria. Abu Dhabi's most exclusive shopping destination, the small but smart mall is the perfect place to spoil your other half with most high end fashion designers having a presence.

Finish the day back on Saadiyat Island. Both the St.Regis and Park Hyatt have restaurants overlooking the water, with lighting and ambience to suit a final romantic sunset.
