Transportation

Amsterdam has a great public transport system. There are trams, trains, buses, and an underground so there should be nowhere you can’t get to easily. Generally though, people don’t use public transport all the time. There’s another way to travel in Amsterdam: pedal power! One of the first things you notice when you arrive is that bikes are everywhere. People tend to use their bikes for everyday things like going to work and going out. Of course, if you have to commute to another city it’s a different thing altogether. Most people will take the train and avoid getting stuck in traffic. For more information about the public transport network see the Getting Around section . The road system is good but like any city, rush hour isn't pretty. Parking in Amsterdam, unless you have a permit from the council, is expensive and illusive. For some more about this topic see Getting Around .
