Football
Football is king in Barcelona: the beloved Barcelona FC (‘Barça’) winning or losing a match can determine the atmosphere in the city. The sheer size of Camp Nou stadium - the third largest in the world, with a 110,000 capacity - speaks for itself. And for social players, the sport is played as passionately as it is watched. Most local sports centres (polideportivos / poliesportius) have multi-surface pitches that are used for football and hockey matches and many also have a futbol salon (indoor football) as well. Below are leagues and clubs that you can join. For general information on team and league progress, the Federació Catalana de Futbol (www.fcf.cat and www.futcat.org) is a good start. In terms of children, it is the main sport practised in schools for boys. Girls' and women's football is on the rise; see www.futfem.com for the latest national and international news.
