Dubai is home to various international and government nurseries, schools and universities offering top quality education. There has been a high level of investment and rapid expansion within a relatively short time frame. Local schools are restricted primarily to Arabic speaking Emiratis, so you will need to enrol your child in a private school. Although prices can be high, your child will learn Arabic and other languages from a young age, the facilities are world-class, and schools are a melting pot of nationalities.

There is also a growing number of internationally accredited colleges and universities offering courses in the arts, sciences, business and engineering sectors. Although the majority of university places in Dubai are filled by locals, there are both expat and mature students studying here too.

In August 2014, Dubai's governing department for education, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), announced that 11 private schools will open in the emirate during the 2014-2015 academic year. This will create 23,000 extra places and boost the total quota of schools in Dubai to 169. Eight of the new schools will teach the British curriculum and two will combine British and IB programmes. In addition, two schools will follow an Indian curriculum and KHDA also announced that the first Canadian school in Dubai will open in September 2014.
