Public Transport

In an effort to ease the city’s congestion problems, the Roads & Transport Authority (rta.ae) has made a serious commitment to improving public transport. The metro is the centrepiece of its efforts and, since its opening in September 2009, has helped to reduce the overall number of daily drivers. Dubai’s bus system has also seen major improvements over the past few years with the introduction of air-conditioned bus stops, new buses and an increase in routes. The RTA’s fleet of water buses offers commuters and travellers an expanding network of routes along Dubai’s waterways; alternatively, there is a more costly water taxi service – operating from Deira across to Jebal Ali.
