Satwa

One of Dubai’s original retail areas, Satwa has something of a village feel about it. It is best known for its fabric shops and tailors, but holds a real mix of stores. The area tends to cater to the lower end of the market and is great fun to look around. 2nd December Street (still often called by its former name, Al Diyafah Road) is a great place for a lively evening stroll. There’s an eclectic mix of shops and fast food outlets; you’ll find an off-road motorbike gear shop and a shop hiring formal evening wear, both men’s and women’s. 

Cheap Buys
Popular reasons to visit Satwa include buying traditional majlis seating and getting your car windows tinted. The pick of the fabric shops is Deepak’s, with an amazing range, reasonable prices and helpful staff. There are a number of shops on ‘Plant Street’ with good indoor and outdoor plants; this is also the street for upholstery and paint. Animal lovers should probably avoid the pet shops – conditions are awful, despite regulations, and the animals are often in a sorry state. Shop around, because whatever you are looking for there’s bound to be more than one outlet selling it and prices vary.
