In 2006 25.4 million people visited Los Angeles, spending $13.5 billion. Throughout the Los Angeles Metropolitan Area, more than half a million people were employed in the tourist industry making it the second largest in the city after international trade.

Drawn to Los Angeles by beaches, business, Hollywood, or a combination of the three, tourists have made the city a major year-round destination. Los Angeles hotels have the fourth-highest occupancy rate in the nation.

The average visitor to the city is white and college educated with a median income of $70,000. The average room rate in Los Angeles is $120 with a 75% occupancy rate.
