Donor Cards

A third of US patients awaiting organ donation will die waiting. If you are at least 18 years old, you can make a difference by donating your body, body parts or pacemaker after your death. The easiest way to become a donor is to designate your decision on your driving licence application when you renew or obtain one. The DMV will then provide you a donor card (DL 290) and print the pink donor symbol on your licence or ID card. In addition, you can sign up with California’s non-profit Organ and Tissue Donor Registry (www.donatelifecalifornia.org). Both resident and non-resident expats can donate and receive organs. Harvested organs are given to patients according to medical need, not citizenship. If you become a donor, be sure to inform your family of your decision.
