Tennis is popular in Oman and you’ll find courts available for public use at hotels, or courts belonging to private organisations that are only open to members. Many hotels have floodlit courts to allow play in the evenings, when temperatures are a bit lower. Prices for hiring courts vary between about RO 3 and RO 6. The Oman Tennis Association oversees the national Omani team in tournaments at home and abroad. The association also organises a variety of annual local tournaments. These are mainly held at hotels and are usually for a mixture of standards, but some are for professionals only. Coaching is available at the hotels by a variety of freelance coaches and again prices vary. Expect to pay between RO 11 and RO 20 for an hour-long private lesson.
