Whether you would like to learn golf or are already a scratch player, Qatar offers year-round, world-class golfing facilities. Its famous course is undoubtedly within Doha Golf Club, which was wonderfully designed in the mid 1990s by Peter Harradine. As well as its beautiful course, there is a golf range where you can practise and perfect your shots. There are a variety of golf academies around the city for beginners. It is always easy, if you haven’t got a set of clubs, to pick some up second-hand from an expat who is leaving, or from an advert online. Enrol for a lesson at Doha Golf Club’s renowned Golf Academy (see below).

There are four golf clubs in Qatar: the Mesaieed Golf Club, Dukhan Golf Club, Ras Abu Abboud Boat & Beach Club and, as mentioned above, Doha Golf Club. The first two are brown courses in remote locations and are for the use of Qatar Petroleum employees only, although occasional open tournaments are organised at both clubs. The one at Ras Abu Abboud Boat & Beach Club is a very small green course and is also restricted to Qatar Petroleum employees. The only club open to the general public is the excellent green course at Doha Golf Club. There are plans for the construction of a further green course as part of the Lusail development north of Doha.
