Highlights

With its unique combination of snow and sun, Lebanon manages to be all things to all people. The mountains are ripe for outdoor adventure, the ancient ruins are fun to explore, the food is sublime – and then there’s the nightlife. Dubbed the ‘Paris of the Middle East’, Beirut is considered by many to have the best clubs and bars in the Middle East. And, like other cosmopolitan cities in the region, Beirut comes alive during Eid with street parties lasting through the night.

The great outdoors
Despite suffering some knockbacks recently with conflicts both internally and externally, Lebanon has blossomed into a popular weekend getaway. In many ways it is an outdoor destination. Sunbathers pack the beaches along Beirut’s Mediterranean coast from May to October, while skiiers hit the slopes at Mzaar, just one hour out of Beirut, from December to March. The capital’s history is long and rich, with numerous ancient mosques, churches and synagogues, as well as a plethora of Roman ruins.

Beyond Beirut
Outside of Beirut is just as interesting though, and worthy of a day trip or two; the massive Roman temples in Baalbek are not to be missed, and the many villages scattered throughout the country hold the key to Lebanon’s incredible hospitality. If you’re looking to swap city life for the mountain countryside, there’s nothing better than a bike ride along the leisurely trails of Laklouk, a year-round resort at 2,000m. The people of Lebanon make it a point to live life to the fullest, and even during times of unrest, you’ll be sure to find the friendly locals carrying on as normal.
