Family Residence Visa

If you are a resident in Dubai you should be able to sponsor your family members (wife, husband, children) allowing them to stay in the country as long as you are here, provided you meet the minimum salary requirement of Dhs.4,000 (or Dhs.3,000 with an accommodation allowance).  If the family member is already in Dubai on a visit visa you can apply to have it swapped for a residence visa.

Sponsoring your parents
Expats must earn more than Dhs.20,000 (or Dhs.19,000 plus two-bedroom accommodation) to be able to sponsor their parents on a residence visa in the UAE. If you want to bring your parents over to live, a special committee usually reviews each case. They consider the age and projected health requirements of the parents and will also need proof you have suitable housing for them and are able to pay Dhs.5,000 per parent as a deposit.

Sponsoring your husband
If you are a woman, you can sponsor your husband and kids if you have a minimum salary of Dhs.10,000 per month. If you are in this situation you should contact the GDRFA and present your case. However, a husband sponsored by his wife must renew his visa annually, while a woman sponsored by her husband need only renew every two or three years.

Older children
For parents sponsoring children, difficulties arise when sons (not daughters) turn 18. Unless they are enrolled in full-time education in the UAE, they must transfer their visa to an employer. Alternatively, parents can pay a one-off Dhs.5,000 security deposit and apply for an annual visa. Daughters can stay on their father’s sponsorship until they get married.
