While the Dubai lifestyle can be conducive to inactivity and overindulgence, the good weather throughout most of the year means that it’s a pretty good place to be active too. If it’s a new sport you’re after, there’s a variety of team sports to choose from. If you prefer to hit the treadmill or cross-trainer, you may be lucky to find accommodation with its own gym, particularly in apartment blocks and new housing complexes. There are also plenty of gyms to join, and many hotels offer health club memberships. Independent gyms usually offer day passes for Dhs.100, or monthly membership from Dhs.350-1,000.

To name just a few: Fitness First is one of the leading gym brands in the region. Then there's Fitness 360, which offers unusual fitness classes such as dancing in heels and partner yoga.U Concept is a boutique gym with DJ decks, art on the walls and a UFC cage in the basement; Engine offers a class-only package at Dhs.450 per month (including suspended yoga using a padded hammock); and Symmetry Gym offers personalised workouts in a small gym environment. 

So, whether you need to shift that ‘Dubai stone’ or want to hit the beach bootcamp-style, or breathe deep with yoga or pilates, you’ll find plenty of ways to get off your sofa and on your feet.
