The total population of Singapore, including residents and expats, was 4,351,400 in 2005, compared to 3,047,100 in 1990. The resident population was 3,553,500.

The population density is 6,066 per square kilometre.


Median age of population: 35.7 years.


The growth rate is 1.4% and there were 988 males for every 1,000 females.


The life expectancy is 77.4 years for males and 81.3 years for females.


Approximately 43% have been married with a mean age at first marriage of 30.5 for men and 27.3 


for women.


55% of residents have secondary or higher educational qualification. The literacy rate is 95%.
