Places to Stay

Singapore offers a whole spectrum of accommodation, with everything from deluxe hotels to backpacker lodges. The competition in the hotel industry, from one-star to five-star establishments, is intense and owners have to innovate and keep on their toes to survive. In the last few years, several boutique hotels have opened, offering cosy, luxurious accommodation in old, converted shophouses with personality as a primary selling point, underpinned by high services standards and modest prices.

Backpackers, once sneered at by mainstream hoteliers are now welcomed. Numerous guesthouses have sprung up to cater to this market and the standards generally leave little room for complaint. The serviced apartment sector is growing as new companies enter the market and as established ones expand. Some hotels are converting some of their existing rooms into serviced apartments.
