Rubbish Disposal

If you live in an apartment then generally you’ll have a rubbish chute to dispose of your garbage. More modern apartment buildings may also have a separate chute for recyclable materials. In some areas though there will be dumpsters on the street where all rubbish must be placed. While these are emptied by the municipality on a regular basis and taken to landfill in the Mussafah area, sometimes they can attract street cats and the occasional rat.

You can call the municipality (800 555) if these are bothering you. Villas have their own bins, and there’s a continuing rollout of a scheme to add extra bins for recyclable waste. There is also a growing number of recycling points near government buildings, supermarkets and hotels if you don’t have the facilities at home.
