Zoos
For a landlocked northern European city without much natural biodiversity, Berlin has within its borders one of the most comprehensive collections of flora and fauna to be found anywhere. Thanks to a fetish for species collecting, particularly by the 19th century royal Hohenzollerns, Berlin boasts some of the world’s biggest zoos and botanical gardens, not to mention a pair of eye-popping aquariums. And for those who’ve seen enough of Berlin’s ubiquitous two-wheeled and four-legged creatures, most of these places tend to be dog and bicycle free.
