Public Holidays
School holidays vary greatly among the international schools depending on the system in the country of origin.
Malaysian schools begin the year in January. In general, school children get around a week of holiday in March, two weeks in May or June, a week in August, and then an extended holiday from the middle of November to the beginning of January.
Government office timings are usually 08:15 to 16:45, Monday to Friday. This is split by a lunch break from 12:45 to 14:00 (from 12:15 to 14:45 on Fridays). Selected post offices are open on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month.
Private sector companies usually operate from 08:30 or 09:00 to 17:30 or 18:00, Monday to Friday. Some open on Saturdays for a half day.
Most major religious celebrations are given as public holidays. However, shopping centres and restaurants will often remain open on these days.
