Bargaining

Once you’ve ascertained that the coveted Gucci knock-off is spelt correctly, try bargaining for a few bucks less than the asking price. Most street merchants and flea market stall holders would rather close a sale than see you walk away empty handed, but the practice is rare in major retail stores, boutiques and independent shops. Bargaining at a farmers’ market is unwise, as prices for fresh produce are not demanding and customers would be remiss to insult the hardworking vendor. Some stores that sell high-end merchandise, such as fine jewellery or electronics, might be slightly flexible with their prices, so asking if the going price is the final offer never hurts. Your luck will vary depending on the store. Advertisements for the same product sold cheaper at another store should be brought to the attention of a sales assistant or manager, as most companies will match the alternative offer so as not to lose business to a competitor.
