Right of Way
An important law to grasp right away is the right of way. Generally at intersections, vehicles at the right have priority. This may seem logical, but keep in mind that Parisian streets do not have familiar red stop signs. Even if the street you’re on is much busier and larger than a side street to the right, the vehicle on the right has priority. On the périphérique, this holds true as well. Vehicles entering the Paris ringroad have priority over those already on it. There are some exceptions to the right of way rule. French autoroutes do not follow the rule, and some city streets are marked with a yellow, diamond-shaped sign which marks them as prioritaire.
