If you find yourself a victim of theft then you must report the crime at the local Public Security Bureau (PSB) within 24 hours, and be sure to get a police report for future insurance claims. If the incident occurred in a hotel, then first inform the hotel security, or if it happened on the Metro then go to the PSB office at People’s Square Metro station. For Pudong International Airport lost property, call 6834 6324; for Honqiao Airport, call 6268 8899. Try to keep your taxi receipts – if you leave something behind you can call the phone number on the receipt and quote the driver number in the hope that he may still have it. For lost passports, consult your country’s consulate and register the loss at the large PSB office (1500 Minsheng Lu, Pudong; 2895 1900). If possible, take along a copy of your passport to ease the administration process.
