Blogs about everyday life in Shanghai have been springing up relentlessly over recent years and are now faithfully used by expats wanting to find local and international news, opinionated reviews and well-written articles. Controversial by their very nature, the blogs are regularly shut down by internet censorship brigades, but generally resume after a swift apology and slap on the wrist. Popular blogs include Shanghaiist and Mad About Shanghai, with Aric Quest's Shanghai Diaries adding a ‘vlog’ to the throng. Shanghaiist’s ‘Contribute’ feature allows anyone to send in information or articles they find interesting, and means that as well as being kept totally up to date, the website is more varied in content and style than the sometimes egocentric blogs of solo writers.
