With all the red-tape involved in gaining a driving licence, it can be easier to hire a personal driver. Companies often offer them as part of an expat package, but for approximately ¥2,000-¥3,000 per month you can hire yourself one individually. For this price, your driver will be available to you for most of the day and evening, although nothing is set in stone and should be negotiated with the individual on starting a contract. Private drivers often offer their services on the noticeboards of stores and supermarkets such as City Shop. Drivers can also be hired by the day and prices will depend on your negotiating skills, although ¥600-¥700 for about nine hours is considered reasonable. ­­­­
