Special Needs Education
Social awareness about mental disabilities has been increasing in China, but there is still little access to information and few support systems for special needs children throughout the country. No Shanghai school has been able to establish a fully integrated special needs programme with the right professionally trained staff yet. Some establishments, such as the British International School and Tiny Tots kindergarten will accept special needs students, depending on how severe the child’s requirements are. Other schools will make concessions to students who have relatively minor needs, including learning disabilities such as dyslexia. Serious special needs cases almost always get turned away.
