Parks

Abu Dhabi has a number of excellent large parks, most of which have lush green landscaping to create perfect escapes from the construction and concrete jungle of the city. During the winter months, the more popular parks can get very busy at weekends. In the summer they can be somewhat deserted. Most have a kiosk or a cafe selling snacks and drinks, and some even have barbecue pits – just remember to bring your own wood or charcoal.

Neighbourhood parks are springing up all over the city; the government’s aim is to provide 25 square metres of open space for every resident of Abu Dhabi, while no resident should live more than 400m from a park or open space. Regulations among the parks vary, with some banning bikes and rollerblades, or limiting ball games to specific areas. Pets are not permitted and you should not collect plant cuttings either. Some parks have a ladies’ day when entry is restricted to women, girls and young boys.
