Beaches

Warm turquoise waters, white sandy beaches and stretches of lush greenery characterise Abu Dhabi’s beaches and will transport you a hundred miles from the stresses of city life. The beaches are busiest during the cooler months and at weekends, and are very popular for barbecues and picnics, as well as perfect settings for a casual stroll. Swimwear, as westerners may know it, is not the norm on free public beaches so prepare for a few stares if you decide to strip off.

Two of Abu Dhabi's beaches have been awarded the internationally recognised Blue Flag certificate for cleanliness: the Corniche Beach and Bateen Beach.

As well as the free public beaches though, check out BAKE under Beach Clubs – with several great locations on the Corniche and Saadiyat Island, you get to access all the facilities of a luxury beach club such as sun loungers and changing facilities, but at a nominal price. The Yas Beach is also a beach you have to pay for (unless you're staying at a hotel on Yas Island, in which case just get a voucher from reception), and has a licensed bar.
