Check in: Waldorf Astoria Dubai Palm Jumeirah

Date: 2014-10-09
In a nutshell: A relaxing staycation destination that oozes class.

Where: All the way round on the Eastern Crescent of the Palm Jumeirah may not be the most convenient of locations, but it does mean that you feel like you’re away from the city without going too far. The views from this location are fantastic: the exclusive villas of the Fronds with Dubai Marina towering to the background.

Now booking: Rooms at the Waldorf Astoria are spacious, super comfortable and all have sea views. It’s the extra touches that make all the difference here – a set of ‘decision dice’ to help you make those oh-so-difficult choices: what to do (pool or beach?); where to eat (casual dining at Social by Heinz Beck or some Asian flavor at LAO?).

Atmosphere: In keeping with the Waldorf Astoria brand, the vibe is uber-peaceful and sophisticated.

Facilities: Choose between a livelier family pool and a serene adults-only pool, or hit the private beach and swim out to the raft for the perfect photo opportunity. You can keep the children occupied in the kids’ club and head to the large spa to try the experience showers, or grab a racquet and hit the tennis courts.

Food & drink: An absolute must is dinner at LAO, Dubai’s first Laos-inspired restaurant. Dishes are more of a Lao/Vietnamese/Thai hybrid, and make for a fantastic fusion of flavours. The Vietnamese chef is adorable and happy to chat about her creations. Be sure to order the Lemongrass Beef, which arrives steaming at the table on a little charcoal grill, and the Vietnamese hot and sour fish soup is a tingling taste sensation.

Who’s staying: Anyone who appreciates the understated class of a Waldorf Astoria property will love it at this peaceful, welcoming hotel. It’s great for families with plenty of beach to roam and the kids club on hand, but it’s still a grown up destination for a romantic break or relaxing escape.
