Dhow Diving
If you want to do your own thing, large independent groups can charter a dhow from the fishermen at Dibba on the east coast, to travel up the coast to Musandam. If you haggle you can usually knock the price down substantially, especially if you know a few words of Arabic. Expect to pay around Dhs.2,500 per day for a dhow large enough to take 20-25 people. Smaller vessels can be hired from just Dhs.100 per hour. Many of the larger dhows come equipped with full-service facilities. For some of the smaller vessels, you may need to bring your own food, water and dive gear.
The beautiful, fjord-like scenery of Musandam makes it a fantastic dive dhow destination. Al Marsa Musandam organises a range of trips that let you explore the remote corners and more distant dive spots. Other companies include Al Boom Diving, Freestyle Divers and Sheesa Beach Dive Centre.
This kind of trip is ideal for diving, although non-divers will enjoy it too as it’s pleasant enough to spend the day swimming, snorkelling and soaking up the sun.
