Pensions
Pensions are tax deductible in the Netherlands as long as they comply with the terms laid down by the tax department. If you have an existing pension plan your employer should help you find out if the plan you already have is tax deductible under Dutch law, and if so you will be able to continue paying into it and deduct it from your taxes. Your employer’s contributions, if they are making any, will be tax exempt. Under EU law you should be able to continue your pension scheme once you have applied in your country of residence as long as your pension was started in either the US or one of the EEA countries. The Netherlands also has a retirement pension that everyone is entitled to if they have lived or worked in the Netherlands. For more information on social insurance and other national benefits see www.svb.nl (which has an English option).
