Climate

Berlin’s climate varies greatly throughout the year and has four distinct seasons. Winters can be harsh with below-freezing temperatures, overcast skies, little sunshine and the occasional dusting of snow.
The effects of global warming have made December to February an increasingly wet and nasty period.

Summers can occasionally get quite hot, with temperatures reaching above 30°C, but more often than not one month each summer gets completely rained out. This can be a good thing as very few apartments are equipped with air conditioning and extended heatwaves cause the city to wilt. Summer downpours make July and August the wettest months in Berlin, each bringing around 70mm of rainfall. May and September often have some of the most pleasant days of the year. Berliners appear to have a light jacket with them no matter how warm it is or how brightly the sun is shining.
January is the coldest month (-3°C average low) and August is the warmest (23°C average high).
