Up on Old Peak road is the Ladies Recreational Club . It used to be a women’s club but now membership is open to couples and families. Typical club facilities and activities are offered to members, while restaurants and rooms can be hired for parties, weddings and seminars.

The YWCA English Speaking Members Department on MacDonnell Road (3476 1340), offers courses ranging from cooking, painting, yoga, mah-jong, hikes, historical tours and activities for children.
Most residential blocks have play areas for children but and the Zoological and Botanical Garden with reptiles, monkeys and other animals is also nearby. Hong Kong Park has a goldfish and turtle pond where cygnets gracefully float around, a tai chi court and aviary, and a planetarium with some interesting displays. The Museum of Teaware is also located in the park.

A children’s park and public playgrounds with swings and slides can be found in Brewin Path and Coombe Road, with octopus card metered parking.

Close by, in the back streets of Central, are SoHo and Lan Kwai Fong, the trendy, but pricey, restaurant and bar area. Prepare yourself for happy hour, and by late evening the whole area turns into one big party.
