KL is a small city, even when you include areas which are officially in another state, like Ampang, Petaling Jaya, Subang and Sungai Buloh. Expats and affluent locals tend to use the same shops, hospitals, schools and leisure facilities regardless of where they choose to live. Even though historically there’s been a bit of an Ampang-Bangsar divide, the improved road network means that outside of the peak commuting times it will be a relatively quick drive from where you live to most other parts of town. Once you’ve sussed out the route, you’ll be popping across town on a regular basis to make the most of everything KL has to offer.
