Although Manhattan is covered in the most detail in the following section, remember that other boroughs have some great affordable neighbourhoods. Certain things are inevitable when you live in New York: parking spots are hard to find, housing prices are astronomical, and if you do find a bargain, gentrification will inevitably seep into your neighbourhood and inflate the prices of everything.

That said, every service you can imagine, from food and banks to dry cleaners and fitness centers, will be easily accessible, whatever neighbourhood you live in.

Each of the outer boroughs has its own distinctive characteristics, landmark, history and ethnic communities - you can often tell where someone lives just by their accent.
