Radio

If there’s one thing New Zealand has plenty of, it’s radio stations. You can tune into a myriad of stations throughout the country, offering everything from talk radio and classical music, to edgy rock and wall-to-wall sports coverage. Radio New Zealand is the state-funded national broadcaster and has two commercial-free stations – National Radio and Concert FM. If you’re a news junkie and like to keep abreast of what’s happening in the world, National Radio (101.1 FM) is the station for you. It provides comprehensive news coverage from throughout the country and the world.

The Radio Network runs a network of radio stations throughout the country called NewsTalk ZB. As the name implies, these stations are largely talk radio stations but most have their own locally staffed newsrooms so listeners can find out what’s happening in their backyard. RadioLive, which is also broadcast nationally, is another talk radio station. There are dozens of commercial radio stations in the country, like MoreFM, the Edge, and 91ZM, playing a wide range of music. Twiddle the dial and you will soon find a station that suits your tastes. If you’re sports-mad, you might find your ears fixed on Radio Sport, which provides sports coverage, around the clock.
