General Medical Care

Pharmacies exist in abundance in Paris and are marked by a green cross. There are two 24 hour pharmacies in the city: Pharmacie des Champs (84 avenue des Champs-Élysée, 75008, 01 45 62 02 41) and Pharmacie de la Poste Maarek (26 rue de Paris, 93100, Montreuil). Pharmacies sell a wide variety of products from the homeopathic to the herbal. Pharmacists in France are very well-trained and are often very helpful and willing to provide advice; they are legally able to provide basic first-aid within their pharmacies and recommend over the counter drugs. Most medicines (or their close equivalent) are available in France. You can’t, however, walk in and grab a bottle of aspirin from the shelf; all medication is regulated and must be requested from the pharmacist, be it sleeping pills or tablets for indigestion.
