Traffic Accidents
Traffic accidents are fairly common in Singapore, although most are just fender benders. The more serious accidents tend to involve motorcycle riders, as they try to squeeze between cars and the bikes are also easier to lose control of.
You have to file a police reports for any accidents involving injury, damage to public property, foreign vehicles, pedestrians or cyclists. If someone has been injured call the police on 999 and wait for them to arrive. Make sure not to move any of the vehicles until the police arrive unless absolutely necessary, as they will need to take measurements and assess the situation. You should note down the date and time, place, particulars of witnesses, damage and position of vehicle(s), registration numbers and road conditions. In the case of a non-injury accident involving damage to public property, a foreign vehicle, pedestrians or cyclists, you have to file a police accident report within 24 hours at any Neighbourhood Police Centre or Post. For all other non-injury accidents (your basic fender-bender) you just need to lodge a report with your insurance company.
