Shopping For Food

Shopping for food has its ups and downs. On the plus side, the quality of produce on offer is usually superb, but prices are generally high, especially for fruit and veg. Also, the small size of most Tokyo supermarkets means the variety is not what many foreigners would expect. This is doubly true if you are searching for your favourite treat from back home – your local supermarket is unlikely to have it. In these circumstances, there are two options: adapt to local produce or join the pilgrimage of expat shoppers heading to shops like National Azabu, a supermarket in the Hirô district that specialises in foreign foods. The chain of Meidi-ya delicatessens is also a good bet for overseas delicacies.
