Stopover

If you're in town for one night only - or even a matter of hours - you might as well head straight for the money shot.

Burj Khalifa
Pitch up on the terrace at Mango Tree in Souk Al Bahar, or any of the cafes that surround Burj Lake, and watch the incredible dancing Dubai Fountain as the world's tallest building towers above you. Shows run every half hour from 6pm until 11pm or 11.30pm. You can also head to the observation deck on the 124th floor if you'd like the reverse view - just be sure to allow a good couple of hours for the tour and you will most likely need to pre-book.

While in the area, you can shop to your heart's content in The Dubai Mall, or pick up souvenirs at Souk Al Bahar. There's also SEGA Republic, an indoor theme park full of thrills.

Burj Al Arab
If you're in the money, head straight for Skyview Bar at this iconic hotel and take in sweeping views of the city, including the Palm Jumeirah. If you're a mere mortal with a budget to match, head to Souk Madinat Jumeirah or Jumeirah Beach Hotel and gaze at the stunning sail-shaped building from there.

Where to Stay
Downtown Dubai is just 20 minutes from Dubai International Airport and has so much going on you'll be thoroughly entertained on even the shortest of stays. The Address Downtown Dubai, The Palace, Al Manzil and Vida Downtown are all very comfortable options.

If you want to roll out of bed and practically hop across to Dubai International Airport, Le Meridien Dubai and Jumeirah Creekside Hotel are just the ticket and both have great dining options.

If you're flying in and out of Al Maktoum International Airport, Dubai World Central, then Movenpick Ibn Battuta Gate is just round the corner and has a fantastic shopping mall on its doorstep. It is also conveniently close to Marsa Dubai and the Palm Jumeirah.
