The experts at POLARIS UAE offer their top tips on operating All-Terrain Vehicles (ATV) and staying safe in the region.
  1. Never operate an ATV without wearing an approved helmet that fits well. Also wear eye protection, gloves, boots, a long-sleeved shirt or jacket, and long pants.

  2. Always inspect your ATV each time you use it to make sure it is in safe operating condition.

  3. Always keep both hands on the handlebars and both feet on the footrests of the ATV during operation.

  4. Allow greater distance for braking.

  5. Always go slowly and be extra careful when operating on unfamiliar terrain. Always be alert to changing terrain conditions when operating the ATV.

  6. Never operate at excessive speeds. Always travel at a speed which is proper for the terrain, visibility and operating conditions, and your experience.

  7. Never operate on excessively rough, slippery or loose terrain.

  8. Avoid operating the ATV in deep or fast flowing water. If you cannot avoid water which exceeds the recommended maximum depth, go slowly, balance your weight carefully, avoiding sudden movements, maintain a slow and steady forward motion, do not make sudden turns or stops, and do not make sudden throttle changes.

  9. Wet brakes may reduce stopping ability. Test your brakes after leaving water. If necessary apply them lightly several times to let friction dry out the pads.

  10. Never attempt wheelies, jumps or other stunts.

  11. Always follow the inspection and maintenance procedures and schedules described in the manual.

  12. Always use the size and type of tyres specified in your ATV’s manual, and always maintain proper tyre pressure.

  13. Never modify an ATV through improper installation or use of accessories.

  14. Never exceed the stated load capacity for an ATV. Cargo should be properly distributed and securely attached. Reduce speed and follow instructions in the ATV manual when carrying cargo.

  15. Always remove the ignition key when the vehicle is not in use to prevent unauthorised use or accidental starting.
