Highlights

Bordered by the Black Sea, Russia, Turkey, Azerbaijan and Armenia, there are few places in the world as enigmatic as Georgia. It’s a bizarre mix of Asia and Europe with a heavy Soviet Union influence and all just a three-hour or so flight from the UAE.

Cultural gems
A deeply complicated history has given Georgia a wonderful heritage of architecture and art, from its sublimely perched old churches, fort ruins and cave cities atop mountains to its stunning holy and green valleys peppered with stunning vineyards as far as the eye can see. Georgia is one of those relatively untapped countries that offers a gorgeous canvas to hike, horse ride, walk, raft and meander through.

Just as unique are its proud, rowdy, cultured people who may not be able to speak English, but will certainly try to invite you for dinner or suggest the best places to eat a meal.

Foodie finds
In fact, its cuisine is a hidden gem that most travellers haven’t tried before. Blessed with a relatively warm climate and outstanding organic produce, the country is home to some of the world’s most inventive and original food traditions. Georgia claims to be the birthplace of the dumpling as well as wine connoisseurs and cognac specialists, and it’s a place where guests are considered a gift from God, creating a warm welcome unlike any other. Whether you just spend a few days in Tbilisi with its intriguing mix of the dreary and the exotic, or you head into the wilderness for an adventurous escape, one thing’s for certain – a short break to Georgia will be a journey you’ll never forget.
