Al Ain

Also known as the ‘green city’ or ‘garden city’ due to the many parks, gardens and open spaces that it boasts, a visit to Al Ain is the perfect escape. Despite its modest size, there are plenty of attractions from the family-friendly Al Ain Zoo to the thrill-a-minute Wadi Adventure. Nearby Jebel Hafeet is a great place to hike.

Al Ain Zoo
This zoo is not characterised by small cages and meagre wildlife displays. Instead, it feels much more like a safari park, with spacious enclosures spread across its 900 acres interspersed with smaller exhibitions. Highlights at Al Ain Zoo include watching the hippos splash around in their 10m-long ravine, catching a glimpse of the rare white lions in their enclosure, and getting up close to the giraffes at their feeding station. 

Hili Fun City
This green and spacious park boasts more than 30 rides and attractions for visitors of all ages, from white-knuckle thrills such as the terrifying Sky Flyer and Thunderbolt, to gentler rides such as the Hili Express Train. Even if you’re not a fan of theme park rides, Hili Fun City is still a lovely spot to spend a sunny afternoon. Simply bring a picnic basket and enjoy the open green spaces, outdoor BBQs and colourful play areas. 

Jebel Hafeet
The highest peak in the UAE, Jebel Hafeet towers over the border between Al Ain and Oman at an imposing 1,240 metres. It forms an impressive backdrop to the scenery; drive to the top to be rewarded with fantastic views over Al Ain.

Wadi Adventure
A must-visit for adrenaline junkies, at Wadi Adventure you can pit your wits against three world class white water rafting and kayaking runs, totalling more than 1km in length. If that’s not enough, there’s also a challenging airpark of tree-top obstacles, canyon swings and a climbing wall to take on. Surfers can ride the perfect wave time and time again at the surf pool.
