Gay & Lesbian
The gay scene in Amsterdam is spread throughout the centre of the city. Some bars are clustered together in areas such as Reguliersdwarsstraat, but bars can be found all over town, which is nice when you’re out and about. Most gay bars are separate. However, anyone is welcome. Women can be found in most place except for the really leathery ones. Best to send in a scout if you’re in doubt to see if there are women already in the bar. Straight men are always welcome too, as long as they behave. Mixed crowds would feel comfortable at any of the bars on Reguliersdwarsstraat. All of the bars are fairly mixed as far as race and nationality, and the back corner of Café April is referred to by regulars as 'Asian Corner'. A couple of places that are recommended for mixed crowds are Prik , and Pub Soho , which have well-established 'mixed' scenes with a big gay twist. The law allows gay marriage and evidence of gay coupling can be seen all over the city. However, no law can do away with prejudice and bigotry, so when you’re out, be aware that not everyone is celebrating your gay pride.
