Nightclubs

The club scene in Amsterdam is not what it used to be but you can still have a great night out. There is a good amount of variety to be had though prices are high so it's best to do your research and find out what's going on where so you are not disappointed. A few clubs do draw big names but tickets can sell out quickly so keep an eye on the monthly agenda's that are free all around town or sign up to a mailing list. Design is important in Amsterdam and most of the clubs have cutting edge design to entertain your eyes while your ears are buzzing. The door policies are not that strict but large groups of men sometimes have problems. Security is quite strict so don't be surprised by having to walk through a metal detector or having your bag searched on entry. There are not as many clubs in Amsterdam as there used to be. This is attributed to the rise of the lounge bars that offer relaxed surroundings, good music and no cover charge. Amsterdam also has a lot of late bars which stay open until 03:00 or 04:00 on weekends and feature local DJs.
