The new developments in Zeeburg: those on the recently constructed islands, Java Island, KNSM and the Riet Islands, have a good range of housing for lower and upper income buyers. There are quite a few ‘designer’ highrises with attractive spacious apartments and views over the water, mixed with more affordable, though not unattractive, housing blocks. Most houses in Zeeburg are of good proportions. The areas closer to the city centre are more subject to the competitive housing market that is enveloping the rest of Amsterdam. The neighbourhood around Artis, for example, is one of the most expensive areas to live in Amsterdam.
