Arriving in a new country always entails serious amounts of paperwork, and this is no ‘one size fits all’ process. The paperwork you need depends on many factors such as your nationality, your age, your profession and your purpose for coming to Ireland. Fortunately there are several very useful websites where you can figure out exactly what you are going to need. The Department of Justice (www.justice.ie) handles immigration. The Department of Foreign Affairs gives you plenty of info on what you need to get in, depending on your nationality (www.dfa.ie). The Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment (www.entemp.ie) can provide information relating to work permits. The Immigrant Council of Ireland (www.immigrantcouncil.ie) is an advisory and advocacy group for immigrants. And the Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner in the UK (www.workpermit.com) may not be an Irish office, but its website has a lot of helpful information on moving to Ireland.
