Plugs & Electrics

The New Zealand electricity supply is 240 volts, 50 hertz. If you come from the UK, continental Europe, South Africa, South Korea, India, UAE, China, Russia or Malaysia, your electrical equipment should work in New Zealand. You will, however, have to fit new plugs or buy an adaptor because New Zealand plugs are shaped differently. It would also be wise to bring some four-socket extension boards with you. You can then get a New Zealand plug fitted to each board and use the existing plugs in the extension board. If you come from the US, Canada, Japan, Taiwan and most Latin American countries your electrical equipment will need to be modified. It might be more straightforward – and cheaper – to buy afresh in New Zealand.
