Shanghai’s ‘Magnetic Levitation’ high-speed train (2890 7777) whizzes between Pudong International Airport and Longyang Station at the Pudong end of Line 2, at an average speed of 340kph, making the journey time a mere seven minutes. Currently, on arrival at Longyang Station passengers must take a further 30 minute taxi ride to get into central Puxi. Plans to extend the line by 31.8km to Hongqiao Airport via Shanghai Railway Station were indefinitely shelved in late 2007 due to fierce opposition from those living near the planned route. Tickets can be bought by the entrance gates to the Maglev: singles cost ¥40 provided you can show a same-day plane ticket, otherwise prices are ¥50/¥80 for a standard single/double. Trains run every 20 minutes, from 07:00 until 21:00.
