Special Needs Education
Several schools cater to children with special needs. Teachers are specifically trained to work with children with learning difficulties or disabilities. Some regular schools such as the American School in Japan accept special needs children, but you should check the facilities and discuss teaching options with the principal before enrolling your child. The level of assistance available depends on the school and the individual’s needs. Harvey and MacLaurin’s provide counselling to parents and will help parents to locate the most appropriate school for their child’s needs. There are also various groups that provide support to parents, including the Exceptional Parents Program run by Tokyo English Life Line Communications Counseling Service (tellparentgroup@hotmail.com).
