The main tour operators (p.245 and 248) team up with local activities providers to offer MTB tours across the UAE. These are often more scenic than challenging. For a special experience, contact Absolute Adventure (adventure.ae) which has been offering mountain biking tours from its Dibba camp since 2005. Guests are briefed, geared up and fitted with bikes before venturing out into the wadis for routes of various difficulty levels. Tours are available from Dhs.350 to Dhs.495, including equipment, transfers to and from camp, a guide, drinking water and packed lunch. You can stay at the camp for a night or two if you’d like to make a weekend of it.

For a truly special local cycling escape, spend a couple of days down in Oman at The View – an eco retreat located 1,400m up, and overlooking, the incredible Jebel Shams (mountain of the sun) which is the highest peak in the Hajar range. Routes wind through all the valleys and The View has some experienced and knowledgeable guides to lead groups of all levels.
